Hearing Evaluations

Comprehensive Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations

Kudos! If you are reading this page, you are taking a proactive step to protect your hearing – or the hearing of a loved one. No one wants to admit they are having hearing problems, but the sooner we identify the source of your hearing loss, the sooner we can provide services or treatments to improve your hearing and quality of life. Read on to learn how we check for hearing loss in Phoenix at Biltmore Audiology & Hearing Aid Center.

Types of Hearing Tests

Our audiologists in Phoenix may recommend a variety of state-of-the-art diagnostic hearing evaluations depending on the severity of your condition. We start with a comprehensive audiology evaluation to determine how well you hear within normal limits, relative to your age. If you have any hearing loss, we can determine the location and type so we can discuss options for improvement.

Your doctor may also recommend other painless tests such as:

  • Speech tests to determine the softest sounds you can hear
  • Pure tone air conduction tests to determine your hearing threshold levels
  • Tympanometry to test how the eardrum moves and check for middle ear blockages
  • Bone conduction test to transmit sounds through bone vibrations to the inner ear
  • Auditory nerve impulse tests to check how sound is being transmitted to your brain
  • Threshold equalizing noise test to check for areas in your inner ear that are not responding to sound
  • Sentence in noise test to see if you can understand conversations in loud environments
  • Otoacoustic emission test to evaluate the inner ear’s (cochlea) response to sound

All of these tests will be explained in detail so you will understand why they are being done and how they can help us diagnose your hearing loss.
