Good Night’s Sleep Can Help Prevent Heart Disease
Our very own Dr. Richard Pearlstein, an Otolaryngologist at Biltmore ENT, Facial Plastics & Allergy, was recently featured in a Daily Independent article discussing the benefits of the Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation system. The article, “Good night’s sleep can help prevent heart disease,” explains the heart health benefits of managing obstructive sleep apnea in order to get restful sleep each night. It is estimated that 26% of adults age 30-70 have sleep apnea, but many are unaware of this potentially life-threatening condition.
The Inspire system is a significant advance in sleep apnea treatment that includes a small nerve stimulator implanted under the skin. Inspire works from inside the body to deliver mild stimulation to key airway muscles to keep the airway open during sleep. This system can be a good alternative for people who cannot tolerate Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) treatments.
Effective treatment of sleep apnea may reduce the risk of major cardiac events and reduce the incidence and recurrence of atrial fibrillation. You can read the full article by clicking the link here.
